Inc. was founded in 1904 by Edward Smolka. In 1917 Smolka was joined by his son Mortimer, and later another son, Irving. When the elder Smolka died in 1947, Mortimer became president and Irving vice president. In 1973 Mortimer Smolka died. The business transitioned to the Bonsignore family. The Bonsignore family was in the amusement–ride business in Coney Island. John Bonsignore had acquired an extensive background in real estate while working in the family business. One of the buildings he owned and maintained was “The Silver Baths,” in its day a famous Turkish bath house. The knowledge John Bonsignore had from personally maintaining the plumbing of the bath house he carried to Smolka Co. Inc. The current 1200 square foot showroom is conveniently located in midtown Manhattan, at 231 East 33 Street, in a multi-story townhouse. The warehouse, located minutes away in the Bronx, at 450 Timpson Street, was opened in 1983 and contains 35,000 square feet with additional out door yard space. Return Policy
Returns Policy No Returns to Our NYC Showroom. No Return of Special Order materials. To return any products you must obtain a Return Goods Authorization (RGA). Products will not be accepted for return after 10 business days of the shipment date. All items must be in “as new” condition, in original packaging, with all warranty cards, manuals and any accessories. We will not accept damaged merchandise that was not inspected by the customer on the original delivery and not claimed at time of receipt and so noted on the delivery receipt. If a customer signs for a delivery clear and does not note any damage, then it is the customer’s responsibility to file a claim with the freight company to recoup the damages. Smolka Kitchen and Bath cannot accept responsibility for any damages that are reported after receipt of material. Defective products can only be exchanged for the same item, if available. All non-defective items are subject to a 25% restocking charge. Installed product cannot be returned for credit. This policy was last updated April 28, 2006.
