Peace no clothing
As ironic as this may sound, the figures depicted on our shirts (based on a series of original paintings) represent a push to move beyond labels. A desire to redefine personal identity according to a new set of principles based on things we share rather than on those things, real or imagined, that we don't.
The labels by which we continue to live define and divide us in ways that deepen our mistrust of the unknown and unfamiliar. At times, our own complicity to this process appear beyond our control or mere apprehension. And so we labor on-detached. Self-absorbed. Complacent. Unaffected. More than anything, our clothing represents a call to action. A challenge to do more and be better. A reckoning. A hope for peace and reconciliation. A rejection of war as a tool to resolve conflict. A reflection of what the human spirit might look like unencumbered by our prejudices and our fears.
Jean-Paul Sartre, when explaining what he meant by freedom, said this: "Existentialism defines man by his action. . .It tells him that hope lies only in action, and that the only thing that allows man to live is action." More important, "Man commits himself to his life, and thereby draws his image, beyond which there is nothing."-FESTUS
